During the first five years of life, children’s ability to regulate their thoughts, feelings and behaviours rapidly develops. To successfully self-regulate children are required to engage and coordinate a number of skills across cognitive, behavioural, social and emotional domains so that they may achieve desired goals and outcomes. This first video will focus on what self-regulation is and what it looks like in early years contexts. After working your way through these videos, visit our Adult Practices and Child Activities sections for some of the great practices that we have seen, developed and evaluated in relation to self-regulation.
